TEMPORARY STATUS

Working in Canada

For Workers:

Applicants intending to work in Canada and to be paid a wage or commission need to obtain a valid work permit issued by CIC (Citizenship and Immigration Canada), which states that an employee can work at a specific job for a specific period of time and for a specific employer. A separate visitor visa may be placed in the passport of an employee.

It is the responsibility of an employer to get confirmation of the job offer from HRDC (the Human Resources Development Canada) which then must be send to the employee so he/she can provide it to an immigration officer when applying for a work permit. The employer is responsible for arranging worker's compensation and medical coverage when the employee arrives in Canada.

* Fee for work permit $150 CAN
Fee is per person, but the total amount will not exceed $450 in the case of a group of three or more performing artists and their staff who apply at the same time and place.
