Family Class Sponsorship

Quebec - Federal

According to the agreement signed between the federal and the Quebec governments the province has obtained the right to assess financial capability of a sponsor residing in Quebec and going to sponsor family members in accordance with an income scale in effect in Quebec. The applicant of the Quebec province in addition to the federal sponsorship procedures must obtain a Quebec selection certificate for the sponsored person.

Steps at a glance:

STEP ONE Submission of the sponsorship application to CIC for assessment *Fee:          $75 for sponsorship application $475 ($75 for a person under 22 years of age) for the principal applicant $550 (or 150$ for a family member under 22 years) for a family member of the principal applicant

STEP TWO CIC provides sponsor with the undertaking agreement and applications to be signed by the sponsored applicant. Receipt of the Quebec Selection Certificate for those applying to Quebec. *Fee: $250 for the fist person sponsored          $100 for each additional person covered by undertaking

STEP THREE Submission of a file by the sponsored applicant to the appropriate Canadian embassy and undergoing of medical examination and security check. The procedures have been changed for sponsorship of immediate family members residing outside Canada   **Right of permanent residence fee: $490 CDN must be paid for the principal applicant and accompanying dependents over 22 years.     *Fees are fully or partially refundable in certain cases stipulated by CIC ** Fee is fully refundable if the application for permanent residence is refused
