TEMPORARY STATUS / BUSINESS IMMIGRATION
Self Employed
An applicant who is intending to settle in Canada as
a self-employed person must exhibit a sufficient net
worth, which will enable him/her to be self-employed
by establishing a business and contributing to cultural,
artistic, and athletic life of Canada or by purchasing
and managing a farm and making a significant contribution
to economic activities.
The applicant must have at least two-year experience
in the period beginning five years preceding the application
in cultural activities or athletics or in farm management.
If the applicant meets the self-employed business immigration
definition, he/she will be evaluated against a selection
grid, including such factors as age, adaptability, language
skills, and education. The pass mark for these business
class immigrants is 35, whereas the maximum possible
score is 100 points. The pass mark is variable and is
determined by the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration
Canada on an ongoing basis.
Fees schedule:
*Application processing fees:
$1050 for the applicant
$550 for spouse or common-law partner and each dependent
child over 22 years
$150 for each dependent child under 22 years
**Right of permanent residence fee (Landing visa):
$490 CDN for the applicant and for spouse or common-law
partner and for each dependent child over 22 years
*Fees are not refundable under any circumstances unless
the CIC did not issue a visa due to problems with criminal
records or medical examination.
